Background: Salivary gland carcinomas (SDC) infrequently metastasize to the brain.
Case Report: A 72-yearold male experienced left-sided hearing loss and vestibular dysfunction. Two years earlier, the patient underwent treatment for a SDC. Magnetic resonance imaging indicated a suspected vestibular schwannoma (VS); however, a perioperative biopsy showed a metastatic SDC.
Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this case is the first description of a SDC that metastasized to the labyrinth and vestibulocochlear nerve. Perineural involvement of the primary SDC appeared to progress retrogradely, via the facial nerve, and it infiltrated the vestibulocochlear nerve, causing clinical findings that mimicked a VS.
