The Ear and the Nose in literary parodies. The “Hymne de la surdité” (The Hymne of Deafness) by Du Bellay and “The Nose” by Gogol. Literary parody is a mode of expression characterized by irony. Every people, every language showcases its own genius in it. Du Bellay practices self-mockery. Gogol opts for a comic marked by the fantastic. Nevertheless, in both cases, parody is but a means to hide misery: behind its mask, human suffering is hinted at (Figures 1,2).
