Abstract:
The clinical application of adenoidectomy using a combined approach decreases the recurrence rate. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate if the clinical application of adenoidectomy using a combined (transnasal and transoral) approach decreased recurrence. Method: The clinical data of 562 patients treated with adenoidectomy using a combined approach, 210 patients treated with transnasal adenoidectomy, and 219 patients treated with transoral adenoidectomy were retrospectively analyzed. Result: After over 1 year follow-up, the recurrence rate for patients treated with an adenoidectomy using a combined approach was 0.18%, which was much lower than the recurrence rate of the other two groups (6.4% and 7.1%). In addition, the surgical time was significantly shorter and there was less intraoperative blood loss for patients treated with an adenoidectomy using a combined approach compared with the other two groups. Conclusion: Adenoidectomy using a combined approach can effectively decrease the recurrence rate, with a shorter surgical time and less blood loss.
